Liberal Democrats say that a new Council strategy to allow taller buildings in the city could lead to an explosion of tall buildings in areas such as Regency ward. According to the council, Regency could be in the frontline for tall buildings, with the strategy calling the area around the Brighton Centre as a 'natural' site for such taller developments.

Liberal Democrats oppose the strategy saying that it will lead to the mass over-development of important sites along the seafront. Kevin Donnelly said:

"The council should be seeking to protect local areas from such mass developments not opening the door to them. This is a blank cheque for developers."
