Council top management costs to be slashed as Lib Dems back low council tax rise2.32.09pm GMT Sun 30th Jan 2005
Liberal Democrat Councillors will be backing a Council Tax increase of less than five per cent and a finance strategy which includes the slashing of Council management costs with the removal of the vacant Deputy Chief Executive post, saving tax payers £100,000 a year. Lib Dem Finance Spokesperson Paul Elgood said: "We will be taking a positive and constructive approach on this year's budget, as we did last year. This means ensuring the lowest possible council tax increase with the least damaging savings to expenditure. This is the best way to achieve this. "By giving our broad support at this early stage, it means many council officers can start to plan with greater certainty, and a clear message goes to central government that at least two parties in this council will act to ensure that Brighton & Hove is once again not capped this year".
