Last night's Council Budget has released vital funds to prepare and submit an application for funding for the restoration of historic railings in Norfolk Square.

The move follows a long campaign by the East Brunswick Residents' Association for the restoration of the railings, removed during the Second World War.

Brunswick & Adelaide Lib Dem Councillor Paul Elgood said:'We were delighted to propose the money for the development work to see the return of the railings to Norfolk Square. This will build on the tremendous progress made in the Square over the last few years. We would like to congratulate residents on winning a fantastic campaign.'

Regency Lib Dem Councillor Dawn Davidson said: 'Only a few years ago Norfolk Square gardens were a no go area, especially at night. Now they are a pleasant urban gardens, used by residents and visitors. The railings would be the icing on the cake for the progress there.'

The agreed Budget proposal reads:

· Allocate £0.03m to design work to improve and enhance our heritage including the seafront area near the i360 development and the drawing up of a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for replacement heritage style railings for Norfolk Square.
